Overview

Join us on a 3 day, 2 (or 3) night trip to the beautiful Lake Placid, NY area. The goal will be to summit seven of the New York 4k footers over 3 days of hiking. The hiking will begin on Friday, August 7th and end on Sunday, August 9th. The cumulative totals for miles and elevation gain, will be about 25 miles and 10,000 ft, respectively, over the 3 days. The plan is to hike Cascade/Porter on Friday (6m, 2k ft), Algonquin/Iroquis/Wright (10m, 4.5k ft) on Saturday, and Whiteface/Esther (9.5m, 3.3k ft) on Sunday (weather permitting). We will stay in a local motel for both Friday and Saturday nights. There is also the option to stay in the same motel for Thursday night, at an additional cost, to minimize a long drive on Friday morning. The motel offers rooms with 2 or 1 bedrooms. The 2 bedroom units have a kitchen and the 1 bedroom units have a kitchenette. Pertaining to COVID related restrictions. AMC will only allow people in the same "contact group" to stay together in the same room. Due to the potential for limited parking and the desire to minimize contact with other hikers, these hikes will have early morning start times. The cost for the weekend will include the two or three nights of lodging. All meals will be the responsibility of the participants as group meals are not currently allowed. Folks will be able to bring their own food for the weekend and prepare it themselves (due to the available kitchen facilities), get take-out, or eat out as desired. There should also be time to check out the Lake Placid area depending upon what is open. Participant cost will be based on single or double occupancy, and two or three nights of lodging. Double occupancy for Friday and Saturday night is $115 per person; adding on Thursday night will bring the total to $170 per person. Single occupancy for Friday and Saturday night is $230 per person; adding on Thursday night is $340. Add $10 to whichever cost applies for non-AMC members. One of the trailheads requires a $15 parking fee ($7 for ADK members). This will also be the responsibility of the riders of any vehicle that parks there. The AMC also requires the following: In support of screening during the pandemic, participants must register for every trip. This enables us to have a record of their signed waiver for every in-person event and supports contact tracing should anyone report a positive test for COVID 19 within 14 days of the event. Participants will need to meet certain expectations as a condition of registering for this event (to be communicated when applying).
