Registration on the AMC website is required for this hike. Join me for an "easy" rated (shorter and flat), but fast moderate to brisk paced 6-mile hike in Phoenixville, PA. We will hike along the beautiful Schuylkill River and canal using established trails and wide gravel/paved paths. The weekly hike is in the dark this time of year. Hike Plan We usually walk along the canal and river. Other dryer routes/destinations include the Lower Perkiomen Valley Park, Pawlings Farm in Valley Forge Park-Giant Sycamore Tree, Reeves Park plus public library in Phoenixville, and Friendship Park in northern Phoenixville. Location The meeting place is at GPS coordinates 40.129247, -75.483021. The street address is 987 Port Providence Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460. Some maps have "Port Province Trail Head - Schuylkill River Trail." There are two parking areas. There is a bathroom at the parking area we use. Meet at 6:30 PM for a start shortly after. The hike will end at approximately 8:45 PM. Notes Expect to wear your mask at least at circle up, when passing others on the trail and when social distancing is not possible. Keep spaced apart when stopping at breaks so fellow hikers can get a drink or snack as needed. It works if you want to wear a mask most of the time. The hike limited to 10 people total. AMC site registration is required I will run this hike in almost any weather condition as long as hiking and car travel to the hike is safe. I will post updates as Meetup comments 90 minutes before the hike plus update the AMC activities database if it is for some reason canceled. Thanks for keeping your RSVPs up to date so others can attend. Expect a brisk walk, but I will adjust some to match the group. There are no real hills. The good conditions route is dirt with a few roots/rocks. For wet or muddy conditions, we walk only on gravel paths or paved roads. Dogs on a leash are allowed. For dark conditions, I recommend a collar light or a wide-angle headlamp shining on your pet so they (or the leash) does not get hit by bicyclists or runners who also use this trail at night. Sneakers should work. An umbrella will work for rainy conditions. You will need a light, but could walk next to someone who has one. I should not let you use my spares due to Covid.
