french creek campground overflow parking area,
Join me for a night hike at French Creek starting from the campground overflow parking area. Expect a pace to safely match the terrain using headlamps for around 6-7 miles as we explore different trails. This hike is AMC rated "easy" since it is less than 8 miles long, but we will be doing hills plus typical hiking trails with rocks and roots with limited lighting. We will take time to stop for breaks as needed to keep the group together. You need to have a working headlamp plus an accessible spare light before you leave circle-up. I've found wider angle lights work best for group hikes. Your cell phone light can only be the third spare. Expect to wear your mask at circle up, if we happen to pass others on the trail and when social distancing is not possible. Keep socially distanced when stopping at breaks so fellow hikers can get a drink or snack as needed. The hike is limited to 10 people total, so please keep your reservations up-to-date. Location: French Creek State Park campground overflow parking lot. This is by the entrance to the loops "A" - "C" just past the dumping station. The road going to the campground is off Park Road. There is no street address since no mail is delivered there. The GPS coordinates are 40.215216,-75.781608. Be ready to circle up at 6:30 PM and we will leave soon after. We should be done close to 8:45. Bring water, a mask, hand sanitizer plus an optional snack. A bathroom is in the center of C loop, about 100 yards up the road from the start. There is limited cell phone coverage in the park, so contact a hike leader before the hike if you are not sure of the start location. No dogs please.
