Seneca Shadows Campground Seneca Rocks WV,
West Virginia,
WV
This is a three night program for novices who want to build their hiking and camping skills and then go on an overnight backpack. It consists of pre program course content, camping in the relative safety of the Seneca Shadows Campground in group site F for two nights and then going on an overnight backpack in the Seneca Creek Backcountry. The program is being held in the Monongahela National Forest in WV. Note that Seneca Shadows is a developed campground with water, showers and flush toilets. The day hiking portion of the program may include hikes with some elevation gain. The backpack portion of the program is a little over 3 miles of easy terrain to a great streamside area. After setting up camp the group may go on a day hike part way up the mountain or further along the stream. **This program is being co-led by Bryna Selig & Robin Burt, backpacking leaders in training who are assisting Richard Breusch who is the leader of record.** This program is pet friendly. Participants will need to bring their own tents, sleeping bags appropriate for the season, pads, backpack and bear canister/Ursack. Your leaders will help advise you if you don't already have this gear. To ensure your safety and enable you to join us on this hike, you must register here on the AMC Activities Database web site, complete the liability waiver form, and have your registration confirmed by this activity's AMC Chapter Leader. You will be notified by email when you are confirmed as a participant. ANYONE NOT RECEIVING A REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION FROM THIS ACTIVITY'S LEADER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO JOIN THE GROUP AT THE TRAILHEAD. AN RSVP ON MEETUP IS NOT CONSIDERED BEING REGISTERED FOR THIS ACTIVITY - THAT CAN ONLY BE ACCOMPLISHED HERE ON THE AMC ACTIVITY DATABASE WEB SITE. In the event that social distancing (6 feet) cannot be maintained during this activity, every participant must have a suitable medical or cloth mask made of two layers of fabric with them which covers their nose and mouth that they can use. Easy: Reasonable fitness for the expected activity is needed, but the trip is designed for those new to the activity. Expect to be active up to 4 hours/day. A bit more active time than the relaxed rating, but with generous breaks. CARPOOLING: Due to the inherent risk from the COVID 19 virus, carpooling is not recommended at this time. For more information prior to registering, please contact the leader.
