This is not a slow ramble in the woods, but a workout pace (~3 mph) on some pleasant woodland trails, with some moderately steep terrain where we approach the Heublein tower from the southwest. We will stop at the top to enjoy a snack and water break. There is a spot that can be tricky because of scree (loose, gravel-like stones) and there can be some sliding on it due to the grade. We will be going up this spot, but will by pass it on the way down. Bring poles if you have them/think you might use them. Leader also has some to lend on request, and this area can be gone around on the way up, should it prove necessary. Please keep this scree in mind when choosing your footwear. Ordinary road sneakers are not appropriate for this. Please bring water, a snack, and weather-appropriate clothing. One experienced trail dog is welcomed, but please check with leader in advance. This is a map of our hike: (except we are only doing a small portion of yellow) Just a reminder: we are not meeting at the state park access area to the tower. We are on the other side of the mountain.
