Overview

Just north of the cities of Philadelphia, New York, and Hartford lies the 3.5 million-acre mid-Atlantic Highlands Region, a forested greenbelt of parks, trails, and pristine lakes and streams. Since 2004, AMC has supported the Highlands Conservation Act, a federal program to direct money from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to land protection in the Highlands Region, contributing to the protection of over 9,000 acres of new open space. Projects like Fishkill Ridge in NY, additions to William Penn State Forest in PA, and Housatonic State Forest in CT have all been made possible with Highlands funding. After decades of success, the federal Highlands program is expiring in 2021, unless Congress acts. AMC is leading the Highlands Coalition, a partnership of 200 organizations, to reauthorize and improve the Highlands Conservation Act. Learn what's special about the Highlands Region, how AMC and its partners are working to protect the Highlands, and how you can help. AMC's conservation team will host this program, led by Emma Coppock and Liam Martens, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.
