Port Providence Trailhead - Schuylkill River Trail, 989-993 Port Providence Rd,
Registration on the AMC website is required for this hike. Join me for an "easy" rated (shorter and mostly flat), moderate to brisk paced 6 to 7-mile hike in Phoenixville, PA. We will hike along the beautiful Schuylkill River to see the Giant Pawling Sycamore. I'm sure by the end of the hike, we can come up with a reason how it is related to Thanksgiving. We can actually see the tree because this is a daytime hike! Hike Plan We will be walking along paved and gravel paths the entire time to Pawlings Farm in Valley Forge Park to see the Giant Sycamore Tree. We go up one hill, but it's not steep and still on pavement. We will stop as needed for a few breaks and to adjust our clothing layers. Location The meeting place is at GPS coordinates 40.129247, -75.483021. The street address is 987 Port Providence Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460. Some maps have "Port Province Trail Head - Schuylkill River Trail." There are two parking areas. There is a bathroom at the parking area we use. Meet before 8:30 AM for a start at 8:30. The hike will end at approximately 11:00 AM Notes Expect to wear your mask at least at circle up, when passing others on the trail and when social distancing is not possible. Keep spaced apart when stopping at breaks so fellow hikers can get a drink or snack as needed. It works if you want to wear a mask most of the time since it is cooler and there are no hills. As well as being an AMC requirement, I want to limit the hike to 10 people total. Please don't show up from the waitlist unless I move you to "confirmed" or "going" or I specifically tell you to come. No non-registered walk-ups. I really appreciate it when everyone is good about canceling RSVPs or letting me know when their plans change. AMC site registration is required to get consent information electronically and limit the hike size. I will run this hike in almost any weather condition as long as hiking and car travel to the hike is safe. I will post updates as Meetup comments 90 minutes before the hike, plus update the AMC activities database if it is for some reason canceled. Expect a fairly brisk walk, but I will adjust some to match the group. Dogs on a leash are allowed. Sneakers should work. An umbrella will work for rainy conditions.
