AMC's Echo Lake Camp,
Maine, Downeast and Acadia,
ME
Spend a week with a crew of 6 and an AMC Trails staff member working on trails in Acadia National Park. Enjoy satisfying work, the company of fellow stewards, and a beautiful setting. SCHEDULE: This program begins at 4pm on Sunday, with time to meet and greet your crewmembers and settle into the camp before dinner. Monday through Thursday, the crew will spend days at the worksite. Workdays typically run 6-8 hours. There may be time afterward to hike, relax, or use one of the camp's canoes on Echo Lake. Friday is an optional recreation day, where you are free to explore the island. Departure time is 9am on Saturday morning. THE WORK: The crew will be working on a section of trail identified by the National Park Service trail crew. The project may involve installing side ditches, drainage structures, steps, or other trail maintenance projects. Crews work rain or shine. The hike and work can be strenuous, but this crew is designed to engage volunteers with no prior trail work experience. Transportation is provided by van to and from the project trailhead. ACCOMMODATIONS: Echo Lake Camp has single-occupant canvas walled tents furnished with cots. Our lodging will be modified in accordance with COVID-19 guidance at the time of the program. Please reach out with questions or concerns. The camp is rustically comfortable with electricity in the dining room, and library with fireplace and plenty of books. There is a full bathhouse with hot showers. The facility will be closed to other guests. RECREATION: Acadia National Park has limitless recreation opportunities - carriage paths for biking, hikes like Beechcliff and Acadia Mountain close by, and access to canoes and Echo Lake right from camp.
