New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Do your kids love skiing the trees? Do you backcountry ski, but aren't sure how to bring your kids along? Are your kids wishing for friends on their ski adventures? In this three trip series, we will explore the mountains at a family friendly speed. The series starts easier and gets harder. Each trip will be a full day on backcountry ski trails and glades. We will hunt for untracked powder and views of the White Mountains. If you like hiking and skiing, backcountry skiing is a great way to do both. The trips in the series build on each other. Each trip teaches the skills needed for the next one. Some of the skills we will cover are * route finding * safe winter travel * breaking trail * skinning and other uphill techniques * tree skiing * family management in the cold. Whether mother nature gives us fresh powder or fresh ice, we will have fun playing in the woods. Complete description of the series at https://amcnh.org/committees/ski/family-ski-series/ For the second trip in the series we will be skiing glades on Crescent Ridge maintained by the Granite Backcountry Alliance. There are multiple options of about 600 vertical feet. It's about a mile from the parking lot to the bottom of the ski zone. From there we will go for multiple laps of the glades, as the group energy allows. Prerequisites: previous trip OR ski groomed blacks, summer hiking experience.
