Two-day introduction to ice climbing class for first-time ice climbers with instruction by CT AMC ice climbing leaders. Program teaches basic ice climbing skills while on top rope. Participants will learn the basics of ice climbing equipment,and movement techniques required to be a competent top-rope climbing partner on vertical ice. Participants should have some climbing and winter sport experiences such as hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing to gain full benefit from this class. Contact leader for more information and to register. Payment required to secure registration. Individuals must make their own travel and lodging arrangements. Participants are required to provide their own climbing gear (harness, helmet and belay device), and technical ice climbing gear (crampons, ice climbing boots, and 2 technical ice axes). REI, EMS and IME can provide any required rental gear needed. The club has a limited supply of gear which can be provided, contact leaders. Class size: minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 participants. No refund if participant cancels within 1 week of class.
