French Creek campground overflow parking area,
Pennsylvania, Southeastern,
PA
Join me for a night hike at French Creek starting from the campground overflow parking area. Expect a pace to safely match the terrain using headlamps for around 7 miles as we explore different trails. This hike is AMC rated "easy" since it is less than 8 miles long, but we will be doing hills plus typical hiking trails with rocks and roots with limited lighting. We will take time to stop for breaks as needed to keep the group together. You need to have a working headlamp plus an accessible spare light before you leave circle-up. Your cell phone light can only be the third spare. You need to register for this hike on the AMC website which is different than the Meetup Website. Expect to wear your mask most of the time except for breaks where we stop and will socially separate. Let me know if you must temporarily lower your face covering while moving, I can stop the group as others may need a break or breather too. A buff or neck gaiter helps keep you warm and functions as a mask. The hike is limited to 10 people total, so please keep your reservations up-to-date. Location: French Creek State Park campground overflow parking lot. This is by the entrance to the loops "A" - "C" just past the dumping station. The road going to the campground is off Park Road. There is no street address since no mail is delivered there. The GPS coordinates are 40.215216,-75.781608. Be ready to circle up at 6:30 PM, and we will leave soon after. We should be done close to 9:15. Bring water, a mask, hand sanitizer plus an optional snack. A bathroom is in the center of C loop, about 100 yards up the road from the start. There is limited cell phone coverage in the park, so contact the hike leader before the hike if you are not sure of the start location. No dogs please.
