In March 2019, Katie climbed Margherita Peak in Uganda's stunning and remote Mountains of the Moon (Rwenzori Mountains). Now a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site straddling the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Rwenzori range boasts a pristine and surreal landscape ranging from jungle to alpine to glacier - as well as Africa's third highest peak - but sees hardly any visitors. Her talk will cover a brief history of these little-known mountains, her experience, logistics, and what to expect if you want to hike there before the glaciers melt! You must register for this event. We will e-mail you the Zoom meeting details on the day of the event around noon. The presentation will start at 7:00 pm. Katie has been involved with the AMC since 2012 (and a co-leader with the HB Committee since 2014), and has planned many of her own hiking/backing adventures both in the US and abroad. She loves hiking, climbing, and mountaineering, and if there's snow and ice, she's especially happy. When she is not playing in the mountains, she works for a women's adventure travel company -- it's the best of all worlds (when there's not a global pandemic)!
