Overview

The Appalachian Trail Committee is looking for volunteers to become Corridor Monitors by adopting a segment of trail lands in the central or southern Berkshires. Enjoy off-trail hiking while giving back to the trail and hiker community. Corridor monitors are volunteers who keep AT Corridor lands free from boundary encroachment and misuse. Duties include walking the property boundaries off-trail a couple times per year following survey maps. The condition of the survey monuments and witness trees is recorded, along with any violations of accepted usage on Appalachian Trail lands. Volunteers should be fit for rugged off-trail hiking and will be trained one-on-one in the field in the use of survey maps, data recording, encroachment observation and follow-up. Multi-year commitment expected. Contact leader to discuss your interest in caring for the Appalachian Trail in this way.
