Fireworks! Flowering redbud trees! Feisty wave trains! New friends! Join AMC leader and experienced paddlers for a joint-club Week of Rivers with our friends from the Carolina Canoe Club. WE'LL COORDINATE WITH REGISTRANTS TO SEE WHICH DAYS WE ALL WISH TO ATTEND, AND TO KEEP UP ON BEST COVID GUIDELINES! In other words, START and END dates are flex! This is the Carolina Canoe Club's flagship annual whitewater paddling event. Each year around the 4th of July, paddlers converge on the Smoky Mountain Meadows Campground in Bryson City, NC for up to 9 days of paddling fun, evening activities, and camping. ---YOU MUST SIGN UP TO BE A MEMBER WITH CCC for a nominal fee, the ONLY COST to this amazing week, apart from your own low cost campsite in a huge, wide open field, and your own food. ---- Bryson City is nestled in the western corner of North Carolina, right in the heart of whitewater heaven, the Nantahala River Gorge. Though not a comprehensive list, nearby rivers include the Nantahala, Tellico, Tuckasegee, and Ocoee. There are even wild and scenic CL 1 options, too! As in the past, AMC leaders coordinate with safe, local river leader. This national festival has some of the greatest paddlers in the country. Within the event's base camp, we'll help guide you as you choose your challenge each day. One of our chapter paddlers, Liz, lends her legendary dad as a frequent safety river leader VIP. He was an infamous director of swift water safety and rescue for ACA and AWW Hang out all 9 days with these very welcoming new friends,, or stay for just a few. That's right, ALL LEVELS of moving water are available each day: from lakes and scenic streams, through many gorge-lined Cl 2-3s, and even Olympic level Cl 4s-5s.
