Hermit Lake Shelters is looking for new summer Information Volunteers. These volunteers are passionate about helping people safely enjoy day hiking on Mt. Washington and camping at Hermit Lake Shelters (just below Tuckerman Ravine). Information Volunteers assist the Hermit Lake Caretaker by greeting guests in a friendly manner, orienting them to the facility, sharing information about Mt. Washington trail and weather conditions, and advising visitors about hiking plans. Essential qualifications: recent experience hiking Mt. Washington trails; backpacking experience; knowledge about outdoor gear, camping, and backcountry safety; and an outgoing, friendly personality. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and pass a criminal background check. Schedule: Hermit Lake Information Volunteers volunteer on weekends in summer and early fall. Local volunteers who live near Mt. Washington can volunteer for single days - hiking in and out either Saturday and/or Sunday. Volunteers who live farther away hike in Friday (anytime), camp at Hermit Lake for two nights, and hike out mid-day on Sunday. Commitment: Commit to volunteering at least 32 hours per year, for at least three years. Most people volunteer two weekends a year.
