Class details: Wilderness First Aid WFA WFA is a 16 hour of fast paced lectures, hands on practice and scenarios going over back country injuries. You learn and practice what to do when the hospital/ambulance is more than one hour away. You learn how to control bleeding, bandaging, splinting, patient care, scene size up, scene safety, recognize and treat for shock, snake/insect bites, hypothermia, heat related injuries, group management and more. Bring to class the packs/gear you carry for that time of year. Wear clothes you don't care if they stained, wet, torn. All students will be "patients" at some time during the practice sessions. You will learn how to improvise WFA tools, materials with what you carry in your packs. Bring your questions. There are no dumb questions. Trail experiences will be shared to illustrate what happens out there. It only takes a few seconds to go from great day to a "uh-oh" day. Classes fill quickly. Sign up, pay and get ready. Those that get wait listed, if the demand is high enough for a second class it will be scheduled. The class will be held at the New Weis Center for Education, Arts & Recreation Ringwood NJ. There is a tenting area with water and one firecircle with rustic seating for all. Tent campers AND cabin renters both have use of heated indoor restrooms. Those wanting to stay overnight should contact the Weis Center for Education, Arts & Recreation directly and make their reservations. Cost of camping is separate from the cost of the class. Class cost - AMC members - $65.00 Non AMC members - $125.00 Class time - please arrive by 8:30 AM both days. Saturday usually ends by 4:00. Sunday ends about 3:30. A test is given at the end of the class. Passing the test gives one a two year WFA certification. Bring lunch. Lunch will be a working lunch, with questions and answers.
