Join us for the leader's annual backpack at Dolly Sods during blueberry season. A high-elevation area with lots of open terrain, and a total of only 11 miles spread over 3 days. Trip starts at 3:00 PM on Friday so we can hike in a short distance and get a two-night backpack. A good trip for beginners. Pace will be slow with lots of time for breaks. This trip is suitable for novices and beginners with gear appropriate for the season. Contact leader for help with gear. Water shoes are required as there are several stream crossings. Bear canisters or Ursack's or similar are required as there are bears and limited trees to hang properly in the area of the campsites we typically use. **Lisa Novins is a backpacking leader in training under the supervision of David Mong who is the leader of record.** Easy: Reasonable fitness for the expected activity is needed, but the trip is designed for those new to the activity. Expect to be active up to 4 hours/day. A bit more active time than the relaxed rating, but with generous breaks. Leader likes a slow pace with lots of time to admire the scenery and take photos. Mask and hand sanitizer with a minimum of 60% alcohol content are required. Due to the challenges of social distancing while hiking you may be expected to wear your mask all the time.

I have been leading backpacking trips for the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club since 1975. I enjoy taking the time to look at the scenery and have a relatively slow pace. I am patient with beginners and enjoy helping them learn new skills.

I'm new to hiking with AMC, but have been an avid hiker and camper for many years. I love introducing people to the outdoors -- whether hiking, biking, skiing, paddling, or camping. I grew up playing outside in Virginia, and am starting to introduce my two young kids to my favorite outdoor spots in the region.

I have backpacked for many years and am an avid outdoor enthusiast. I love hiking and feel that in the forests and mountains in the northeast as these are some of the most beautiful areas in the country. My passion is to have fun, stay safe, and enjoy the out of doors with others of all experience levels.
