Explore Mount Washington, from forest floor to mountain summit! With Joe Dodge Lodge as our base, join AMC Outdoor Guides on guided day hikes on Mount Washington, taking in summit views, discovering rare alpine plants, and learning all about the unique natural history of the White Mountains. Weather permitting, we'll have the chance to drive the Mount Washington Auto Road and hike above treeline in the Alpine Garden and up to the summit of Washington. After a day above the trees, we'll explore the beautiful hardwood and boreal forests of Pinkham Notch with chances to see stunning waterfalls and rocky ravines. This program is designed for active adults that are interested in hiking moderately challenging terrain with a group while learning about the natural and cultural history of the surrounding mountains. Trails to be hiked will be chosen by the Outdoor Guides, decisions will be based on weather, and the interest and ability of the group. This trip does not include a full day hike to the summit of Mount Washington, but shorter exploratory hikes above and below treeline focusing on the natural history of the area while learning backcountry skills along the way.
