Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. Maine Lighthouse Cycling Weekend (SO,FL/RL,CUE/RG,12-14) 25 miles (or more) Friday, September 10, 2021 to Sunday, September 12, 2021 This weekend adventure offers a wonderful opportunity to cycle through some of the most scenic locations of Southern Maine. We meet on Friday, September 10, in Portland, Maine. From ornate mansions to ocean views, this city will enchant you. Along the brick sidewalks and cobblestone streets of the revitalized Old Port District, you can browse through bookstores, explore craft shops and eat to your heart's content. We are planning a 3 pm special tour of this charming city followed by a group dinner (included). We will be staying at La Quinta Inn and Suites by Wyndham Portland, where ten single rooms have been reserved for social distancing. The annual Maine Lighthouse Ride on Saturday, September 11, 2021, benefits the Eastern Trail Alliance, an organization dedicated to building a 65-mile greenway from Kittery to South Portland, Maine. All routes begin and end at the beautiful oceanfront campus of Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) in South Portland. Rides are self-guided, with maps and cue sheets available to download and print, or to store on a phone or other mobile device. (E-bikes are allowed!) Four route options include: Century - 100 miles with 9 lighthouses Metric Century - 62 miles with 8 lighthouses 40 Miler - 40 scenic miles with 8 lighthouses 25+ miler - Brand new exciting ride with 7 lighthouses Rest stops will be set up along the routes. Look for the MLR sign. After the ride, you are free to spend more time exploring Portland or drive up to Freeport and the LL Bean outlet. Dinner is on your own this night. On Sunday, September 12, we will drive south to Kennebunkport for a guided bike ride along the shore, and past the Bush Family compound, before leaving Maine for home. Included: Hotel x 2 nights, breakfast x 2, hotel parking x 2, in-room bike storage, Friday night group dinner, Maine Lighthouse Ride registration ($100 or $125), Maine Lighthouse Ride 'to go' lunch, Guided Tour of Portland, Guided bike tour of Kennebunkport. Single room price: $850 (Double rooms available for two participants within same contact group: $610 per person) Additional MLR registration fee for routes of 40 to 100 miles: $25 Non-refundable unless replacement participant is found. This AMC activity is limited to 10 people including the leader.
