AMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors locally, visit many of our lodges and campgrounds, and join virtual events and activities. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. Overview

Join us for an adventure filled weekend getaway for families in nearby Harriman State Park with the AMC. This outdoor fun weekend for families at the Harriman Outdoor Center is filled with opportunities to camp, hike, paddle as well as other activities. Breakneck pond offers dedicated spaces for swimming, sunbathing, paddling, fishing or just relaxing to watch the sunset. If you would like to go fishing, please bring your own tackle and obtain a NY fishing license if necessary. Paddlers of all levels are welcome, but must be comfortable swimming with a life jacket in deep water. At night we will enjoy a group campfire at the campsite. Feel free to bring your favorite snacks, including s'mores, to enjoy around the campfire. Optional meals may be purchased from the dining hall for a totally care-free weekend, or you may bring your own food to cook on a fire ring that is available in the campsite. We will be staying in the Beaver Brook Shelters. Each shelter can hold a 4 person tent for your family which can be borrowed with advance request to the camp office. A secure bearbox for overnight food storage is available and required. Modern bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets are nearby. This event is led by the chapter's Harriman Program Committee volunteer leaders. Paddling equipment, personal flotation devices and yoga mats are available at the camp free of charge and courtesy of the NY-North Jersey AMC chapter. The camp is accessible by public transportation. Registration: Advance registration is mandatory, Space is limited to a total of 9 participants including children. In the past, this event has completely sold out. For this event, we will have a two-step registration process. Step 1 will require registering on the AMC activity website. Once a leader has confirmed your registration, you will be sent a code to register and pay for your ticket and any optional meals on Eventbrite. Your registration is not complete until full payment is received. An information sheet will be sent to all paid registered participants with your confirmation email. Cost: Camp: Adults: $75 AMC Members/$115 Non-Members Child: $60 AMC Members/$100 Non-Members Rate includes 3 Days/2 nights accommodation (Fri-Sun) and program leadership provided by volunteer leaders. Rate excludes EventBrite and credit card processing fees for Non-members. Cancellation Policy: Reservations cancelled more than 14 days in advance receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee. Reservations cancelled 14 days or less in advance are not refundable. If the AMC must cancel a program, registrants will be notified and all fees will be refunded. Normal weather will not cancel this event.

The camp is easily accessible by public transportation. Take either the NJ Transit train from New York Penn Station to Tuxdeo, NY, or the Shortline bus from the 42nd Street Port Authority Bus Terminal to Tuxedo, NY. The gate to the camp is on Lake Welch Parkway at the intersection of Pine Meadow Road. (41.217869, -74.106021). Drive up to the camp office to check-in and unload your gear. Then park in the big field.
