The Millstone River begins in western Monmouth County and flows northward through southern Somerset County into the Raritan River at Manville. Almost three quarters of its length is paralleled by the Delaware and Raritan Canal.[3] Both the Millstone River and parallel canal provide drinking water to portions of central New Jersey and provide recreational uses as well. We will paddle downriver for approximately four miles from Amwell Road down the Millstone River to the Raritan River's confluence. There will be a choice to check out the fish bridge at the dam at the confluence or play in the standing waves for the spillway nearby, as well as checking out some history of the D&R Canal and how the locks operate. After a bit of rest, we will begin our journey 3.3 miles back upstream via the D&R Canal. Along the way, we will stop to smell the roses at the Rudolf W. vander Goot rose Garden (YouTube)
