Tallman Mountain State Park (Moderate)

Date and Time

Wednesday, May 19, 2021, 11:00AM - 3:30PM

Piermont, NY,
New York, Hudson River Valley,

Registration is required for this activity.

Tallman Mountain State Park (Rockland Co, NY). 11:00 AM. 7 miles, mostly flat but some rolling terrain. This will be a moderate hike through the Park where we will view the berms and salt marsh and learn its interesting history as a former oil tank farm. Then it's out the Piermont Pier to follow in the footsteps of the 40,000 US Troops per month who marched to the waiting ships to transport them to the Atlantic Theatre during WWII. We will see many sights as we walk the mile-long Piermont pier halfway across the Hudson! Finally, we will learn of the historic transformation of Piermont, NY from a blue collar factory town to its present day status. Bring lunch and water. Adverse conditions will alter the route. Don't worry, this will be a moderate-paced fun hike. Hiking boots or good sneakers recommended. Steady rain, or serious threat of thunderstorms will modify or cancel hike. All need to bring hand sanitizer & masks, the latter will occasionally be needed when passing other groups. Meeting place will be sent to those who have registered. Unfortunately there is currently no public transportation available for this hike. Under the phased restarting of AMC activities, the registration for hikes now takes place online instead of with a paper waiver form as previously done. For online registration you will need to set up a login account with the AMC if you do not already have one. Please contact the leader ( if you have any questions or concerns before registering. COVID-19 PROCEDURES (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY): DO NOT participate if you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (such as fever or cough), have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or are quarantined for potential exposure to COVID-19. Those who are at higher risk of getting sick from COVID-19 or who may expose family members who are at higher risk should not participate. This hike is limited to 10 people including the leader, and requires advance registration. If you register and are unable to attend, please cancel your registration in advance so that your space can be provided to someone else. Unregistered persons will not be able to participate in the hike. All hikers are required to carry face coverings (masks) from the start to the finish of the hike. In the event that social distancing becomes challenging or a group member shows signs and/or symptoms of illness including cold symptoms, cough, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, or fever all group members are required to don their masks. All hikers must have hand sanitizer with 60% or greater alcohol content. Avoid sharing food, gear etc. Registration includes filing of an "enhanced" online waiver.
