Location

Maine, Southern and Mid-Coast,

Registration

Registration is required for this activity.

Overview

The Maine coast around Deer Isle contains around 90 islands. We will visit and camp on some of these on a 4-day adventure circumnavigating Deer Isle. We will pack and unpack boats each day, so kayak camping experience is required. This trip is rated level 3 (Difficult) as we must paddle a segment each day regardless of conditions. One segment is 8-10 nautical miles in Penobscot bay, the largest bay on the Maine coast. This section is nearly open water and subject to high seas if winds prevail. Participants must be capable of paddling this segment (all day) in possible headwinds and waves (hopefully not, but is possible). The rewards however are great as we see some beautiful areas of this coast from Vinalhaven, Isle au Haugh, and Desert Isle in Acadia.

Marty's first kayak was a skin-on-frame kit he built with his Dad when he was 14. He's been paddling small boats ever since. He has been an AMC member for more years than he can remember but only recently started volunteering as a sea kayak trip leader. He holds ACA Trip Leader and ACA L2 Coastal Kayak Instructor certifications.
