Laneville WV,
West Virginia,

Registration is required for this activity.

A two-night backpack with 15 miles covered in an area next to the Dolly Sods Wilderness that is known for the sound of the wind roaring over the eastern continental divide. This point-to-point backpack starts Friday at 2:00 and ends mid-afternoon on Sunday. The route is generally flat to downhill but the trails are rocky, muddy and most of the mileage on Saturday is a bushwhack. Most of the trip will be above 4,000 feet in elevation. We will move camp each night. The route features numerous open vistas. Pace will be moderate for time to enjoy the views. This area is subject to early winter conditions so expect low temperatures. If the area has snow or snow is predicted we will relocate the trip. Roads are not plowed in this area. Due to the lack of tall trees in the area, a bear canister or Ursack is required to store your food at night. This trip is suitable for those with previous 3 season backpacking experience with gear appropriate for the anticipated weather. Contact the leader for more information.

I have been leading backpacking trips for the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club since 1975. I enjoy taking the time to look at the scenery and have a relatively slow pace. I am patient with beginners and enjoy helping them learn new skills.

I grew up hiking in state parks, national forests, and wilderness areas throughout West Virginia and have been backpacking since 2015, including three section hikes on the AT in Virginia. I am interested in exploring out-of-the-way places and providing a means for everyone to experience extended trips in the wilderness. The more we spend time in nature the more we'll want to protect the environment and see our connection with it.

I have backpacked for many years and am an avid outdoor enthusiast. I love hiking and feel that in the forests and mountains in the northeast as these are some of the most beautiful areas in the country. My passion is to have fun, stay safe, and enjoy the out of doors with others of all experience levels.
