Join the Conservation Committee for a New Jersey Shoreline Cleanup Conducted by Clean Ocean Action.

Date and Time

Saturday, October 23, 2021, 9:00AM - 12:30PM

Englewood Cliffs, Bergen County, NJ - Boat Basin at Palisades Interstate Park,
New Jersey, Central,

Registration is required for this activity.

Be part of a large group of other conversation-minded individuals and organizations cleaning debris from a shoreline. Marine debris can injure or kill marine and coastal wildlife; damage and degrade habitats; degrade the quality of life in coastal communities (who likes to go to a ocean/river/lake shore and see debris?); and threaten human health and safety. Clean Ocean Action has been conducting twice-yearly beach cleanups since 1985, growing from one site in 1985 to over 10,000 volunteers in 2018 and this year over 70 sites in New Jersey. See Related Links below for their most recent annual report. We will be volunteering at a site at the base of the Palisades on the shore of the Hudson River (yes, there really are beaches on the Hudson River) in Englewood Cliffs. There are great views of the Bronx, George Washington Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline. Volunteers will record data about types and quantity of debris. This valuable data is used to advance federal, state, and local programs to reduce litter. The cleanup runs from 9:00 (check-in) to 12:30, rain or shine. After the cleanup join AMC volunteers from many chapters for the FallFest BBQ at Mohican Outdoor Center (note: there is a $25 fee for the BBQ). This event at Mohican is being organized in part as a thank you to all volunteers who have stuck with the AMC through the last two difficult years and have continued to stay engaged and support the AMC with all the work you do. Thank you gifts and door prizes will be available to all who attend the BBQ. For more information, see Related Links below. Bring water, gloves, a pail for collecting debris if you can (that will reduce the number of plastic garbage bags needed), and wear appropriate footwear. Access to the site is easy. There is a large parking lot for drivers. Non-drivers can take public transportation over the George Washington Bridge or along route 9W, and then walk down the road to the base of the palisades. Registration for this event is required by both the AMC and Clean Ocean Action. After you register with us we will send you information on how to register with Clean Ocean Action. Any questions? Pease contact either of the leaders.
