Overview

Come ski with us on a unique advanced BC tour from AMC's Lyford Pond Camps (LPC) to the B-52 crash site on the northwest shoulder of Elephant Mountain near Greenville, Maine. As a bonus, we will also seek out the tail section, which is on AMC's property on the southwest shoulder of Elephant Mountain. Trails and snow conditions will vary greatly; the surfaces are a combination of dirt roads, trails and some bushwacking. Snow conditions will vary from some of AMC's groomed trails to snowmobile trails to totally untracked snow. We will strive to make the grades moderate, but there may be some shorter steeper sections. Thus, full skins and metal edged BC skis with at least about a 70/55/65mm profile are required. High topped leather or possibly lighter plastic boots are recommended, depending on your ski ability in BC conditions. We will meet in Greenville at Northwoods Outfitters on Sunday, then drive and ski as a group from the winter parking lot to Lyford Pond Camps, approximately 7 miles; on Thursday we will reverse this. You can have one duffel bag brought in by snowmobile at an additional $25 per bag per trip (book on your own) or carry all your own gear for free. We will have three full days Monday to Wednesday for attempts to get to the B-52; these are long days at about 15 miles. If we reach our objective early in the trip there is lots of terrain to explore. Detailed itinerary and maps/gps files will be shared with participants. We will be staying in a rustic but cozy and comfy cabin at Lyford Pond Camp that will have a mix of bunks/beds. Heating is by wood stoves. Our cabin may not have electric power, but overnight charging can be had in the main lodge and cabins are lit by propane lamps. Dining will be hearty and healthy and served family style in the main lodge dining room. Wine/beer are available for purchase/consumption in the main lodge. Participants are welcome to BYOB for consumption in the cabins. Per AMC policy, cancellations > 14 days prior receive a full refund minus a $25 fee and < 14 days prior will forfeit the full amount. Please see the trip brochure on the web links for more detailed info. Please register via the AMC Activities database and the leaders will follow up with you. Also please feel free to contact Mike Barry at mikebarry657@mac.com or 617.257.2251 or Peter Logan at mtnmanlogan@gmail.com or 978.436.1798 to sign up and for questions.
