Overview

A three night sled/backpack to climb some of the 3,500' peaks in the East Branch Neversink River area of the Catskills. These peaks are a combination of bushwhacks and trailed peaks with a focus to work on climbing Rocky and Lone, the trailless peaks the first day and then Table and Peekamoose the second day. The trip will be to pack or sled in our gear to a base camp on Thursday and then have Friday & Saturday to climb peaks. Return on Sunday. This trip is suitable for winter beginners who have a lot of three season prior experience and have slept out in cold temperatures. Keep in mind though that we will be several miles into the woods and getting out if you don't like it won't be an easy task. Previous winter hiking experience is required. For gear, boots with removable liners and snowshoes are required. Crampons and ice axes are optional. Leaders have spare sleds we can loan for those interested in using them. Contact leaders for more information about required gear and the trip plan. On the registration form please list under other comments what kind of boots, sleeping bag and tent you have. Leaders don't recommend buying a lot of gear ahead of getting a little experience to see what works well for others. Much of the gear you need can be rented or borrowed. In the event that social distancing (6 feet) cannot be maintained during this activity, every participant must have a suitable medical or cloth mask made of two layers of fabric with them which covers their nose and mouth that they can use.

Leader

I have been leading backpacking trips for the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club since 1975. I enjoy taking the time to look at the scenery and have a relatively slow pace. I am patient with beginners and enjoy helping them learn new skills.
