Overview

We'll take a 1.7 mile trail hike to Vernooy Falls in the Sundown Wild Forest of the southern Catskills. This is a beautiful waterfalls with multiple cascades. After admiring the falls, we'll bushwhack up the Vernooy Kill to see the many "steps" of the falls flowing through this beautiful, wild country. There are no long, steep ascents, just wilderness and rough footing. Total mileage about 6 to 8 miles. Significant rain cancels. Bring lunch, snacks & at least 2 quarts of water. Also pack rain gear (just in case), microspikes or other traction devices and a headlamp or flashlight. Waterproofed boots are highly recommended. Hiking poles will help on the bushwhack part. Participants must be fully vaccinated against , or have a recent negative test for, the Covid virus, as per AMC policy (below). To register, please contact the leader.

I've led outings since the late 1970s for a variety of clubs, e.g. Sierra, Catskill 3500, Adirondack Mtn. Club Appalachian Mtn. Club. I presently lead for the latter 2 clubs. My outings have included day hikes, backpacks, snow shoe & x-c ski outings, cabin trips, day paddles & paddling/camping trips by canoe & kayak. These days, I especially like leading overnights, but sometimes lead day hikes.
