WHP: Pierce/Eisenhower (Level 2/3)

Date and Time

Saturday, March 5, 2022

New Hampshire, White Mountains,

Registration is required for this activity.

This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Hiking Program (WHP) and is only open to enrolled participants of that program. If you would like more information about the WHP, please email us at or follow the link below. Join us for a climb up beautiful Mt. Pierce (4312 ft), a 6 mile roundtrip expedition to amazing views of the valley, Mt. Washington, Mt. Eisenhower, and northern Presidentials (views are weather permitting of course!). The last tenth of a mile is above treeline. 2,400 ft of elevation gain. We will hike in two groups and if the weather is good, the faster section will continue to Mt Eisenhower (extra 3 miles and 1200 ft of gain total all above treeline for a total of 9 miles and 3600 ft gain). If this extension is offered, one group will descend directly from Pierce as well. The extended hike requires that we move along and is an level 3 rather than a level 2 hike. It is a good training hike for the above treeline workshop. Crampons are required for the extended hike (see below) To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.

AMC Trip Policy

COVID 19 Information: As of December 1, 2021 AMC requires volunteers be vaccinated or receive a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the start of an event. AMC relies on the honor system for compliance. Participants may be required to wear masks, provide proof of vaccination, or in the alternative a current (within 72 hours) negative PCR test as a condition of attending this event. For your personal safety, you should expect to be in the presence of vaccinated and unvaccinated people in all AMC settings and should make choices about participating accordingly.

I love to hike and backpack, and lead all kinds of trips from beginner, to extra-long day hikes like a single day presi traverse, to multi-day backpacks and bushwhacks. I even lead trips overseas for the Adventure travel committee. It's all good! I've hiked the 100 Highest peaks in NE in winter, and hope to someday hike a long trail like the PCT or the AT.
