Overview

Are you an experienced winter hiker, ready to push a little higher and farther? Come join Jess, Rosa, and Jim on this "quad burner" hike up Mt Pierce (4312 ft) and Mt Eisenhower (4760), where weather permitting, we'll be treated to spectacular views of the valley and Mt Washington. Our intended route up Crawford Path has about 3,200 ft of vertical gain over 9.2 miles, and it will take us all day at our intended moderate 1.5-2mph pace. The section above Mt Pierce is fairly exposed, while Eisenhower is entirely above tree line, so we'll focus on appropriately handling the weather. We will require full above tree line clothing and gear for this trip, including microspikes, crampons, and snowshoes, as well as full face and eye protection (e.g. ski goggles and facemask or balaclava) for wind protection. See link below for the full recommended gear list. Strong Winter Hiking Program participants who have already completed Level 1 and 2 hikes are welcome to register for this trip. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. Our alternate date for this trip in case of heavy snow or rain is Sunday January 30.
