Overview

Come join fellow seniors (open to everyone) for a hike or snowshoe along the Cathance River to enjoy the beauty of winter. This is one of my favorite places to hike in winter as the conditions on the river are always changing with some beautiful ice formations at times. This is a great outing for those who enjoy getting out in winter for 2-3 hours with a slightly challenging terrain (not all flat). The pace will be moderate and distance covered (3 or so miles) can vary as there are several trail options. Be sure to check out the link for a trail map and info. A detailed description including times will be emailed once you are registered. Most likely a mid morning outing unless we experience super cold overnight temps. If there is not enough snow, you will need microspikes or similar traction in case of icy conditions. After registering, be sure to email or call Michelle with information about your winter experience, equipment, and current level of activity. The leaders on this trip are fully vaccinated plus a booster. We are asking our participants to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated as defined by CDC. Since this is geared to seniors, we hope everyone will have received a booster.

AMC Trip Policy

COVID 19 Information: As of December 1, 2021 AMC requires volunteers be vaccinated or receive a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the start of an event. AMC relies on the honor system for compliance. Participants may be required to wear masks, provide proof of vaccination, or in the alternative a current (within 72 hours) negative PCR test as a condition of attending this event. For your personal safety, you should expect to be in the presence of vaccinated and unvaccinated people in all AMC settings and should make choices about participating accordingly.

An avid outdoors person, Michelle has been leading hiking, paddling, cross country skiing and overnight outings for several years now. Michelle lives in Topsham but enjoys spending a lot of time in mid Maine at their cabin in Elliottsville (near AMC's MWI lands). Michelle and her husband, Stan are corridor monitors on the AT. They urge everyone to give back with trail work.
