Overview

Let's enjoy a winter hike to the Hancocks, 2 of the 48 four thousand footers! We will plan to hike 10 miles with 2700 ft. elevation gain at a moderate pace. The goal is to summit both Mt. Hancock (North Hancock) at 4420 ft. and South Hancock at 4319 ft. We will hike through a woodsy winter wonderland, as well as on steep snow and ice-covered sections, rock hop across several streams, and may even have the opportunity to break trail through fresh snow. If this sounds like fun, come join us! Winter hiking experience is important. Participants are required to have microspikes, crampons, mountaineering snowshoes, 400 g or equivalent insulated hiking boots, extra socks, winter layers and all appropriate winter gear, including a functional headlamp with extra batteries. All participants must present a copy or image of their vaccination record for COVID 19 or proof that they have received a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the start of the hike. Participants are required to bring a mask to wear during any emergency or similar situation that requires people to be within close proximity for an extended period of time. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.

AMC Trip Policy

COVID 19 Information: As of December 1, 2021 AMC requires volunteers be vaccinated or receive a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the start of an event. AMC relies on the honor system for compliance. Participants may be required to wear masks, provide proof of vaccination, or in the alternative a current (within 72 hours) negative PCR test as a condition of attending this event. For your personal safety, you should expect to be in the presence of vaccinated and unvaccinated people in all AMC settings and should make choices about participating accordingly.
