Not to be combined with additional promotions or discounts. This one-day Map and Compass course is designed for hikers seeking to gain skills in map reading and compass use. The course will offer one day of indoor and outdoor classroom instruction on the basics of using a map and compass. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Combination of classroom instruction and field time practicing skills Multiple hands-on activities offered throughout the day Skills learned will include: Basic map reading. Covers types of maps, common map features, and what to look for when purchasing a map. Orienting a map using compass and using land features Basic compass use. Instruction on basic features of the compass, how to shoot bearings and follow bearings over distance. Covers types of compasses and what to look for when purchasing a compass Locating yourself in the wilderness using map and compass and land features COVID-19 Response AMC's COVID response priorities are safety, transparency, and mission. We continue to follow the science and recommendations from CDC. This includes a vaccination requirement for all participants in this program. Exemptions: AMC understands that medical or religious exemptions must be considered. Those to whom medical or religious exemptions apply must receive a negative PCR test result within 72 hours of the start of this program.
