AMC Camp Dodge Trails Training Center,
New Hampshire, North Country,
ME
Join a crew of 8 and an AMC Trails staff instructor to spend a long weekend in the Northern Presidentials. You'll enjoy satisfying work, camaraderie with other stewards, and a beautiful setting with AMC's Camp Dodge Trails Training Center as your base. SCHEDULE: The crew will begin with crew and camp orientation at 4pm Wednesday. Thursday through Saturday, you'll go out and work on a trail construction project nearby, taking an AMC van if needed, then hiking to your worksite. The workday generally runs for 6-8 hours. There may be time to relax or recreate before dinner. On Saturday afternoon, the crew will take photos and clean tools, celebrating a well-done project. Sunday morning, you'll have breakfast and depart at 9am. THE WORK: The hike in to your worksite will be at most 2 miles one-way, and the crew will pack tools into the worksite - this may account for 12-18 lbs of weight. We will work rain or shine. The hike and work can be strenuous, but it is not necessary to have trail work experience! Your project may involve installing drainage structures, building rock steps, constructing bog bridges, restoring impacted areas, or other trail maintenance projects. An AMC Trails staff member will guide your group all weekend. ACCOMODATIONS: Camp Dodge has co-ed adult bunkhouses with a separate bathhouse and showers. There is meeting and dining space in the indoor dining room and open air pavilion, with spectacular views of the Northern Presidential Mountains. Please note that our lodging is set up for shared accommodations, and occupancy will be adjusted based on COVID-19 conditions at the time of your program. RECREATION: The Great Gulf Wilderness, the Carter-Moriah range, and some great swimming holes are all within walking distance of Camp Dodge - great for relaxing, walking, or taking a Sunday hike. Please note that as of February 2022, all participants must be fully vaccinated by the CDC's definition to participate on AMC trips. If this is not possible, participants can opt to take a PCR test 72 hours prior to trip departure. Negative results will be accepted in place of vaccination. If this policy changes, registrants will be notified.
