Registration is required for this activity.

(best time to call: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Saturday)

Join a crew of 8 and an AMC Trails staff instructor to spend a week at Gorman Chairback Lodge. Enjoy time with fellow stewards deep in the Maine Woods as you complete needed projects on the trails. SCHEDULE: We'll begin with crew and camp orientation at 4pm Sunday. We'll work Monday through Thursday, rain or shine. Workdays typically run 6-8 hours, and there may be time after work to relax or take one of the lodge's canoes out on Long Pond. Departure time is 9am Friday. THE WORK: Your trail crew leader will provide guidance on the implementation of your project. The project may involve installing side ditches, drainage structures, steps, or other trail maintenance projects. The hike and work can be strenuous, but this crew is designed to engage volunteers with no prior trail work experience. Transportation is provided by van to and from the project trailhead, if needed. ACCOMODATIONS: Gorman-Chairback Lodge is located "off the grid" on the shore of Long Pond. It is within the Katahdin Ironworks Jo-Mary Multiple Use Forest, near Greenville. The lodge has rustic 4-bunk co-ed adult bunkrooms (bring a headlamp or flashlight for a light at night!). Our lodging is set up for shared accommodations, and occupancy will be modified in accordance with COVID-19 guidance at the time of the program. There is no Wi-Fi and limited cell service. There are showers in the main building. RECREATION: The lodge is located in a large forest preserve, with trails and water access. Take a walk or a paddle, or relax and read by the pond. Please note that as of February 2022, all participants must be fully vaccinated by the CDC's definition to participate on AMC trips. If this is not possible, participants can opt to take a PCR test 72 hours prior to trip departure. Negative results will be accepted in place of vaccination. If this policy changes, registrants will be notified.

AMC Trip Policy

To provide an environment that allows AMC Outdoor Programs to continue to operate during the pandemic while mitigating risk for all group members and staff, we have modified our operations based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), input from AMC's medical advisor, and in response to specific guidance in the states we operate. Based on specific program attributes, AMC will require program participants be fully vaccinated, or share the results of a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of your program start. Any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) is an acceptable vaccine for the purposes of this policy. View the fully vaccinated definition as determined by the CDC. While individuals participating in programs will be required to verify vaccination status or share a negative COVID test result, participants should expect to be in the presence of both vaccinated and unvaccinated guests at AMC facilities, including bunk rooms and dining areas. Participants seeking accommodation based on religious or medical reasons may be subject to additional protocols beyond testing. This includes the potential for mandatory masking when maintaining social distance is not possible.

Adult: $425 member / $465 non-member
*All lodging and food (dinner Sunday - breakfast Friday), tools, use of helmets, gloves and eye protection, instruction, van transportation to and from the trailhead. Lodging tax will be added to the cost of this trip.
