YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO GET INVOLVED: The Appalachian Mountain Club's "Narragansett Trail Restoration Project" is looking for folks interested in joining our volunteer Outreach and Communications Committee. As a member of this committee, you will partner with a team and work with communities along the historic AMC "Narragansett Trail", in southern Rhode Island, to share information about the trail restoration project of the Narragansett Chapter of the AMC, along with the support of a growing coalition of local organizations and agencies, including the National Park Service, as part of their "Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance" (RTCA) program. The Narragansett Trail Restoration Project (NTRP) is an ongoing effort to restore the historic, scenic hiking trail that once linked the communities of South Kingstown, Charlestown, Richmond, and Hopkinton, RI. The hiking trail was created by the Narragansett Chapter of the AMC, between 1933 and 1936. It was the AMC's first purely recreational hiking trail established in the State of Rhode Island. No prior experience is necessary to join our amazing team of dedicated and enthusiastic partners! THE IDEAL PARTICIPANT In The NTRP's Outreach and Communications Committee (OCC) Will: • Have great written and verbal communication skills • Participate in monthly planning committees • Have experience with or interest in connecting with southern Rhode Island communities • Have a desire to help identify stakeholders along the historic trail route • Help come up with a communication plan, with ways to reach out to stakeholders and share information about the trail • Be willing to use various communications tools, such as social media, newsletters, and a Storymap. No experience required, just a willingness to learn! • Be willing to work on a planning team with dedicated volunteers, the AMC Narragansett Chapter, The Nature Conservancy, the National Park Service, and more! • Be willing to dedicate several hours per month (approx. 5-10) to develop communication strategies and participate in team meetings And THE PERKS!... • Great professional volunteer experience, working with local communities to create access to hiking along a beautiful and fascinating trail that is truly a part of Rhode Island history! • A meaningful way to meet people in southern Rhode Island that share your interests and enthusiasm in promoting trail stewardship! • A fun way to learn communication and community engagement skills! • Can all be done from the comfort of home! • Best of all…Being part of a lasting legacy, restoring this magnificent trail! AMC Trip Policy

COVID 19 Information: As of December 1, 2021 AMC requires volunteers be vaccinated or receive a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the start of an event. AMC relies on the honor system for compliance. Participants may be required to wear masks, provide proof of vaccination, or in the alternative a current (within 72 hours) negative PCR test as a condition of attending this event. For your personal safety, you should expect to be in the presence of vaccinated and unvaccinated people in all AMC settings and should make choices about participating accordingly.
