Moose River Plains NY,
New York, Adirondacks,

Registration is required for this activity.

Please note:
In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania.

This is a three night trip to visit some of the remote ponds and lakes in the Moose River Plains area of the Adirondacks near Inlet NY. We will camp at a free, first come first served roadside campsite the first night. The previous month we scouted a variety of possible areas for this trip. They included Falls Pond, Indian Lake, Beaver Lake & Mitchell Ponds. Depending on the desired location we will either ride our bikes with camping gear or ride our bikes with gear to a wilderness boundary and then backpack in from there for one night. We return to our bikes the next day and travel to a second location. On Sunday we return to our cars and depart. To register for this event click on the register link, you will be taken to the original listing where you can then register. Distances will be in the range of 7-10 miles each way on bikes and up to 4 miles each way on the backpacking. The riding speed and hiking pace will be slow to moderate. We are out to have fun rather than to get in shape. This trip is open to families. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. **Maria Stephens is a bicycling leader in training under the supervision of David Mong who is the leader of record.** Moderate: Fitness level and/or past experience to sustain the activity at a moderate pace is required. Expect to be active up to 4-6 hours per day. Reasonable breaks in the action. The leader will be arriving the night before and you are welcome to join him. We will go on a ride before the rest of the group arrives. Leader has lots of experience in this area but not for all the places we plan to go. Helmet, bright vest, spare tube and tools to repair your bike are required. The roads will have some traffic and we are a one hour drive away from cell service. Backpacking gear suitable for the weather is required and ability to fit it on your bikes with no more than a small amount on your back. A bear canister or Ursack is required. All participants must attest they are vaccinated before they will be approved for a spot.

I have been leading backpacking trips for the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club since 1975. I enjoy taking the time to look at the scenery and have a relatively slow pace. I am patient with beginners and enjoy helping them learn new skills.
