Join this vigorous 20+ mile Appalachian Trail backpack starting from the NY/NJ state line heading north to the NJTransit Harriman Station on NY Rte 17. We will pass on hiking down the Agony Grind section because Elk Pen is closed from Rt 17 access. Begin with a car shuttle. Hike 10+ miles each day. Meet up is 8AM prompt. Enjoy sweeping hilltop vistas, ridge line views, pleasant woods, lakes, a waterfall and lots of short, sometimes steep climbs and rock scrambles. Camp near Wildcat Shelter. Hike starts with the short but sweet State-Line and Ernest Walter trails. Midday the 2nd day we stop for ice cream. Approx 10 miles each day. Open to backpackers with recent backpacking experience doing vigorous mileage and moderately challenging terrain !

AMC Trip Policy

COVID 19 Information: As of December 1, 2021 AMC requires volunteers be vaccinated or receive a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the start of an event. AMC relies on the honor system for compliance. Participants may be required to wear masks, provide proof of vaccination, or in the alternative a current (within 72 hours) negative PCR test as a condition of attending this event. For your personal safety, you should expect to be in the presence of vaccinated and unvaccinated people in all AMC settings and should make choices about participating accordingly.
