Highland Center and Zealand Hut, White Mountains,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join us on this family adventure in Crawford Notch during peak foliage in New Hampshire. The trip begins with an overnight at the Shapleigh Bunkhouse at the AMC's Highland Center on Friday and then an overnight at the full-service Zealand Hut on Saturday - no need to carry food except lunch and snacks. The 2.8 mile hike into the hut is easy and relatively flat, but filled with brooks, marshes, ponds, and waterfalls. An early start on Saturday will allow us plenty of time to explore the terrain and surrounding peaks when we arrive. After we reach the hut and have lunch we will venture up to Zeacliff for those with energy left for this steep ascent. From the sunny ledges, you have a sweeping vista over the eastern Pemigewasset Wilderness. Directly below you is Zealand Notch. On Sunday after breakfast we will pack up and make our way back to the trailhead. All ages of children are welcome, and while it is an easy hike to the hut, beginner hikers should probably not attempt Zeacliff as it is 1000 feet of elevation gain in less than 2 miles.
