Overview

Kayak or canoe downriver on the South Branch of the Raritan River from Three Bridges, NJ to Old York Road in Branchburg, NJ. The 10 ½ mile paddle will take around 4 to 5 hours with reasonably steady but relaxed paddling with a late lunch stop (mile 5). This section of the river flows through open space, sparse woods, and old fields, with lots of birdlife. Flat-water paddle with a few class 1 ripples as the river meanders around many bends in a steady, easy current. The downriver trip will end where the South Branch joins the North Branch to become the Raritan River proper. An early out option is available at the lunch stop about half-way at Elm Street in Neshanic Station. Cancelation Policy: This trip will be postponed or canceled if there is continuous heavy rain, 70% chance or better pending heavy thunderstorms, or water level that is below 4.2 Ft or above 5 feet (as per USGS 01397420 South Branch Raritan River at Black Point Rd at Neshanic Sta NJ). Kayaking is all weather sport so we will go in light rain. Your RSVP is REQUIRED. Please call the trip leader after 8 AM on the day of the event to confirm that you are coming and that the trip is on. Kayak rentals available at either EMS Bridgewater or Contact Lauren Theis at Raritan Headwaters. You must transport your own boat to the paddle. There are NO rentals riverside. This event is co-sponsored by Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) and Raritan Headwaters Donations to Raritan Headwaters will collected at beginning of trip only for those who wish.
