Hike England's Lake District National Park (#2342)

Date and Time

Saturday, June 17, 2023 - Saturday, June 24, 2023

Lake District NP,
Great Britain

Registration is required for this activity.

JOIN US for a week of day hiking in northern England's Lake District National Park. Our accommodations will be at the historic and beautiful Hassness Country House situated on the lakeshore at Buttermere, Cumbria. We plan to rent the entire inn. After a hearty English breakfast each morning, we will venture forth into the Western Fells made famous by Alfred Wainright's series of illustrated walking guide books from the mid 20th century. This range is home to Scafel Pike, the highest point in England, which is virtually in the backyard of Hassness Country House. Wordsworth and Coleridge found inspiration here, and Gainsborough and Constable captured the scenes on canvas. The walking trails in the area are endless. We will offer daily hikes ranging from easy to moderate each day in the valleys and lower fells. The hikes will start from the inn or have a short cab ride to the trail head. If there is interest in the group, we can offer on several days an additional hike in the higher fells with more elevation gain. The inn will serve a 3-course dinner each evening (except one night when the cook is off) and they have a licensed bar. On that evening, dinner will be at a nearby pub, where native hospitality is on tap along with the local ales. June is a wonderful time of year to be in Cumbria with its lush greenery, many flowers, and long periods of daylight. Aside from our hiking adventures, there are also historic and intriguing attractions to be visited in the area. If there is interest, we can offer a day trip to Dove Cottage in Grasmere, the home of William Wordsworth.
