Overview

From Glasco Mini-Park, just north of Kingston NY, we'll paddle north to Scenic Hudson's Falling Waters Preserve to walk the trail to the falls. We'll have the option of swimming on the north side of the point, where the water is deeper & clearer. We'll cross the river to Magdalen Island, where bald eagles have frequently been seen. We may enter Tivoli North Bay Wildlife Mgmt. Area. The trip will continue down the eastern shore to Cruger Island, then cross the river again to Turkey Point State Forest, where we'll stretch our legs and might take a swim. We'll paddle up the western shore back to Glasco Mini-Park. We'll paddle about 8.5 mi. (more if we enter Tivoli North Bay). Kayaks must be at least 13.5 ft. & with dual bulkheads or flotation bags. A spray skirt, bilge pump & spare paddle are recommended. Canoes are acceptable but need to keep pace with the faster kayaks. PFDs must be worn while on the water. Paddlers need to feel comfortable crossing the Hudson with tugs & barges, fast-moving power boats and an occasional tanker. Kayakers need to know how to do a wet exit and an assisted re-entry. This outing will be cancelled if double-digit winds are significant rain are forecast.
