Sandwich Dome,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Hiking Program (WHP) and is only open to enrolled participants of that program. If you would like more information about the WHP, please email us at whp@hb.amcboston.org Enjoy a winter hike in the Sandwich Range Wilderness to one of the New England hundred highest peaks, with a quick side trip to Jennings Peak. We'll hike about nine miles with 2900 feet of elevation gain. Weather permitting, we'll see great views from these two peaks on the "52 With A View" list. Previous experience hiking mountains in northern New England winter conditions is required. Expect an early start and moderate, steady pace with brief breaks. You'll need full winter gear including full face protection and appropriate winter boots, microspikes, and snowshoes with built-in crampons. See gear list at https://hb.amcboston.org/images/docs/Gear_lists/Winter_Dayhike_equip.pdf and ask us if you have any questions. Ice axes are not required, and we'll decide about crampons based on trail conditions. Participants may be asked at the trailhead to carry some group gear. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions, or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
