Overview

Spend the weekend in the White Mountains of New Hampshire enjoying the foliage, hiking two 4000 footers, and eating well. The first night will be spent at the AMC's premier lodge, the Highland Center in Crawford Notch. After breakfast we will head up to the Mizpah Springs Hut, which is nestled in a col between two 4,000-foot peaks, Mizpah Spring Hut is just a short distance from the fabled Crawford Path. The trail is 2.6 miles to the hut, with a gradual elevation gain of 1,900 feet through a boreal forest. Once we reach the hut we will have lunch, and then for those who want to do some more hiking, we will head out to Mount Pierce. In the morning we will head over to Mount Jackson and then back to the cars via the Webster Jackson trail. Children and adults must be able to hike 3-4 miles over rugged terrain and carry two day's worth of clothing, snacks, water and lunches. Cost includes lodging at the Highland Center in shared bunk rooms, dinner Friday and breakfast Saturday at the Highland Center, shared bunk room lodging at the Mizpah Springs Hut Saturday night, along with dinner and breakfast at the hut and happy hour Saturday night. Does not include lunches or snacks.

Eliza planned and executed an AMC major excursion to Alaska and has recently focused her attention on co-leading winter backpacking trips. Eliza's family (husband and 8 year old daughter) have hiked and backpacked in Banff, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Zion, and Yosemite National Parks.
