Overview

This program is for AMC members who are interested in organizing and leading front-country activities and trips for the AMC Boston Chapter. Completion of the program qualifies participants to co-lead front-country/local trips and activities alongside an experienced leader. The program consists of lectures, small group exercises, and role-play scenarios. Topics include trip planning and trip organization, safety, and leadership approaches. The program emphasizes experiential learning and decision-making skills and is open to all AMC members with preference given to those who have actively participated in AMC events and trips. This training is a full day session in Milton, Massachusetts This program is suitable for those who intend to only lead front-country activities. Those who intend to lead backcountry activities must take the multi-day leadership program. If you have questions about which program is more appropriate for your interests, please email the program coordinator at LeadershipProgram@amcboston.org. Please only sign up for one of the two programs.

AMC Trip Policy

Cost*

Adult: $25 member
*$25 covers all program costs. A refund will be provided through March 31st only if we can find another person to take your spot. No refund after March 31st. If cost is an obstacle, please email LeadershipProgram@amcboston.org to discuss support. Costs are reimbursed when a participant meets the requirements to become a leader with the AMC, of which this program is the first step.

Judith is a keen hiker and loves to explore the trails in the MA state parks & reservations and town conservation areas. In 2020 she section-hiked the MA Mid State Trail and this year she is exploring the Bay Circuit Trail.

Amy has been hiking in the mountains of New England for 25+ years and has hiked all of the NH 48 4K's. She is currently section-hiking the AT in Maine and enjoys hiking and backpacking trails less-traveled. In winter, she hikes, snowshoes, and cross-country skis.
