This program is for AMC members who are interested in organizing and leading AMC Boston Chapter activities and trips. Completion of the program qualifies participants to co-lead trips and activities alongside an experienced leader. The program consists of lectures, small group exercises, and role-play scenarios spread over two evening sessions and one in-person overnight weekend session. Topics include trip planning and trip organization, safety, leadership approaches, and group dynamics. The program emphasizes experiential learning and decision-making skills. Open to all AMC members with preference given to those who have actively participated in AMC events and trips. Participants are required to complete up to 1.5 hours of pre-work for each of the two evening sessions in addition to prep-work prior to the weekend session. Active participation is required in all parts of the program. Attendance and participation in the two evening sessions is required to attend the weekend session and complete the program. The two evening sessions are Thursday, March 30 and Thursday, April 6 (both in-person at AMC Headquarters in Charlestown) from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm. The weekend session is April 14-16 (beginning at 7 pm on Friday and ending by 4 pm on Sunday) at New England Base Camp, Milton, MA. This program is particularly suited for those who intend to lead backcountry activities. A shorter one-day program is available for those who will lead only front-country activities.
