Beara Way,
International,
Ireland
Join us for eight days of hiking the highlights of Ireland's Beara Way, a magical world of mountains and lakes in southwest Ireland surrounded by a picturesque seacoast. The Beara Way is a long distance walking route around the spectacular Beara Peninsula that stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean. Quite remote, it has remained perhaps the most unspoiled part of Ireland with active fishing villages, bucolic farmlands, and a large concentration of historical and archaeological sites. The main towns along our route are Glengarriff, Castletownbere, Allihies, Eyeries, Kenmare and Killarney where we will dine on local fare and lodge in quaint family run B&Bs. As we meander through the countryside we will visit colorful villages and explore two beautiful islands, Beara and Dursey, the latter of which we will arrive by cable car. We will hike eight consecutive days, averaging ~10 miles/day, surrounded by mountain vistas and beautiful coastal areas. There will be ample opportunity to observe wildlife and enjoy the colorful flora and fauna unique to this region. Included in the trip price: double occupancy lodging, luggage transfer from inn to inn, all breakfasts, 8 dinners, transportation to and from Shannon Airport in Ireland, as well as transportation to planned hikes/trailheads.
