Overview

One can see it on a clear day from Halibut Point SP in Rockport and from its summit (692ft) on a clear day one can see the Boston Skyline and beautiful Mt. Washington. Please join us for this beautiful 6-7 mile hike to the summit of Mt. Agamenticus, or Mt. A, as it is sometimes called. Mt A is a monadnock, an isolated hill of bedrock standing alone. We will be hiking at an easy pace to visit 2nd Hill and 1st Hill (the summit) to end our hike between 2 and 2:30PM. No rush, as we will want to enjoy the spectacular views from the summit with its viewing platforms. Due to the construction of the new parking lot and rest rooms at the base of the mountain, parking is limited, as is the number of participants for this hike. Due to the limited parking, we will be meeting and car pooling up from the Park and Ride in Newburyport. If you have an SUV (a lot bigger than my Honda Fit) and are willing to transport hikers and gear, please contact Margaret. Meeting place details and time regarding carpooling; plus reminders will be e-mailed to confirmed participants a few days before the hike. The hike itself will begin at 10:00. Bring the required essentials in your day pack (nothing with strings): at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks, first aid and anti blister supplies, hat and gloves, wind/rain jacket (no umbrellas), sunscreen, insect repellent/net (the bugs will be out and no bug zappers) Wear appropriate hiking footwear (no sneakers or sandals), moisture wicking hiking apparel (no cotton or dungarees), wool socks and dress in layers. Hiking poles highly recommended, as are gaiters, if you have them. No dogs. Inclement weather will cancel, as will temps in the 90's. Visitors to Mt A are encouraged to place $2.00 in the park's donation box. Any questions please contact Margaret.
