Overview

Join us for a 10-day hiking adventure rich in the colors, culture, and ancient sights and history of Jordan. Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a small country of approximately 11 million people in Western Asia, remains a largely peaceful kingdom using its' influence to broker peace and good will. Jordan sits strategically at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe taking its' name from the Jordan River which forms much of the country's northwestern border. This fascinating nation also has 16 miles of its southwest coastline on the Red Sea which separates it from Egypt. Together we cover the highlights of Jordan: - We start in the capital, Amman, one of the oldest cities in the world and Jordan's economic & cultural center. - Explore magnificent UNESCO monuments of Amman & Jerash. - Meet the warm-hearted Bedouin people, experience their culture, and overnight in a Bedouin tent. - Hike to the ancient city of Petra, a World Heritage Site, entering through 'The Back Door' to avoid tourists. - Learn to prepare (and then enjoy) a traditional Jordanian meal with appetizers, main courses, and dessert. - Hike Barrah Canyon in dramatic Wadi Rum followed by a desert cooked lunch and a sunset Camel Ride. - Experience the Dead Sea relaxing in the therapeutic waters. - Visit the Madeaba mosaics and Mount Nebo where Moses looked across to the Promised Land. We are accompanied throughout our trip by an English-speaking guide as well as experienced Jordanian guides and Bedouins happy to share their culture with us. We are guests in this geographically stunning country in the heart of the Middle East with first class arrangements of logistics, security, cultural experiences, and guided hiking days over diverse scenery. Six nights are in comfortable tourist class hotels, one night in the famous Feyan Eco-Lodge, and two nights in Bedouin simple comfortable fixed tent camps equipped with beds, mattresses, blankets and pillows under a desert sky. Our baggage is carried for us so only a small day pack is needed and the transfers between locations and trail heads are comfortable and not long.
