Franconia Ridge,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH United States
Kick off the '23-'24 winter hiking season with us on this classic "Fliberty" out and back along the southern portion of Franconia Ridge to the summits of Liberty (4,457') and Flume (4,329'). We'll trek 9.4 miles and gain nearly 4,400' of elevation on this strenuous hike, anticipating to be on trail for approximately 8 hours. (depending on weather and trail conditions). Nearly 3 miles is on the exposed ridge and the bare summits offer incredible views of the Franconia Notch below, the Kinsman Ridge to the west and Pemi' Wilderness to the east, not to mention the commanding aspect of the northern Franconia Ridge. Participants shall be active mountain hikers with previous winter experience in the WMNF or similar terrain and should be comfortable hiking in twilight or darkness.. Understanding that paces vary, we will hike as a group at a moderate, yet heat regulating, rate and have an AMAZING time enjoying whatever the weather brings and vistas offered. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
